Visa & Work Permit In Indonesia
Indonesia Visa & Work Permit
Are you planning to work in Indonesia? Navigating the complex world of work permits and visas can be overwhelmed.
Securing the necessary work permits for foreign employees in Indonesia is often more complex than in many other countries, involving detailed processes that require the employer’s active involvement. In Indonesia, it’s essential for foreign employees to obtain both a work permit and a visa to legally work and reside within the country.
At ATA Services Indonesia, our dedicated team specializes in simplifying those complex processes. We’re well-versed in the latest Indonesian regulations, ensuring a smooth application experience.

Work Permits (IMTA)
Foreign employees are required to have a work permit known as an Ijin Mempekerjakan Tenaga Kerja Asing (IMTA), which the employer must apply for on behalf of the employee. This permit allows the foreign worker to legally undertake employment in Indonesia.

Izin Tinggal Terbatas (ITAS)
This is a temporary stay permit that allows the holder to reside in Indonesia for up to one year with the possibility of annual renewals for up to four years. The ITAS itself doesn’t grant employment rights unless paired with an IMTA.

Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap (KITAP)
This is a permanent stay permit available to those who have previously held an ITAS for a continuous period of three years. The KITAP allows for a longer stay and is valid for five years, significantly simplifying the long-term residence and employment in Indonesia.
Obtaining work permits and visas in Indonesia involves a lot of documentation and adherence to the country's immigration rules. ATA Services Indonesia is here to simplify this process and ensure everything is on track.
Immigration Considerations for Indonesia
Navigating the complexities of Indonesian immigration can be challenging, and there are several factors to consider when applying for visas and work permits. Here are some questions we need answers to:
- Is your company registered with the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM)?
- Is your employee already in Indonesia, or will they be relocating?
- Does your employee have a valid work permit and visa from a previous job in Indonesia?
- Does your employee have any other type of visa in Indonesia, such as an educational visa, spouse visa, retirement visa, etc.?
- What is the nationality of your employee.
